Download Claude AI — Official Apps & SDKs

7 min read

For a safe Claude AI download, use claude.ai for web, desktop, and mobile access, use Anthropic’s official docs for developer tools, and use this independent Claude guide for context; c-ai.chat does not host installers, mirrors, APKs, SDK packages, or model files.

Download Claude AI — official Mac, Windows, iOS, Android apps and SDKs.
  • Official product: use claude.ai or Claude’s own download flow.
  • No mirrors: c-ai.chat never hosts or proxies Claude app binaries.
  • Developer setup: use Anthropic’s docs for Claude Code, SDKs, and API access.

Choose the safest route

  • Want to chat now? Use claude.ai in a browser.
  • Want an app icon? Use Claude’s official download page.
  • Want Claude in a terminal? Use the Claude Code docs.
  • Building an app? Use Anthropic’s docs and API platform.

System requirements

Requirements are set by Anthropic’s product pages, store listings, and developer docs. Check those pages before installing, especially on managed devices.

  • Web: Use a modern browser with network access to claude.ai. If your company blocks AI tools, ask your administrator to allow official Claude domains.
  • Mac: Use a supported macOS version as shown by Claude’s download flow or installer. If the app will not open, confirm the file came from claude.ai.
  • Windows: Use a supported Windows version as shown by Claude’s download flow or installer. If Windows shows a security prompt, verify the publisher before continuing.
  • iOS: Use the App Store listing reached from your device or Claude’s official download page. The store listing shows device requirements.
  • Android: Use the Play Store listing reached from your device or Claude’s official download page. Avoid APK downloads from unofficial websites.
  • Developer tools: Claude Code and SDK workflows need a working terminal or development environment, plus the account or API access required by Anthropic’s docs.

Claude Code (CLI)

Claude Code is Anthropic’s official terminal coding agent. Use it when you want Claude to work inside a command-line development workflow.

Start with the official Claude Code docs. They cover setup, authentication, permissions, and safe use. Do not install from package pages that imitate Claude branding.

Example: verify the command before installing

Anthropic publishes a native installer that does not require Node.js. Open the official setup docs first, then copy the command from that page.

# macOS / Linux / WSL (recommended)
curl -fsSL https://claude.ai/install.sh | bash

# Windows PowerShell
irm https://claude.ai/install.ps1 | iex

# Then launch:
claude

For full instructions including Homebrew, WinGet, and the legacy npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code path, see our Claude Code install guide.

Run terminal tools from a project you trust. Review file changes before committing them, especially if Claude Code has permission to edit files.

Claude Agent SDK

The Claude Agent SDK is for developers building custom agents that call Claude from their own applications. It is different from downloading an app for end users.

Use Anthropic’s official docs with our Claude API docs guide. Confirm supported languages, package names, authentication, tool permissions, and deployment guidance before shipping.

Anthropic documents Python and TypeScript SDK paths. If you are choosing a model, compare options in our Claude models guide and the official Anthropic model overview.

How to verify the official build

Avoid impostor downloads by treating Claude like any other sensitive work tool: start from the official domain, verify the publisher, and reject files from mirrors.

Safe signals

  • The page is on claude.ai, docs.claude.com, platform.claude.com, or anthropic.com.
  • The desktop installer shows Anthropic or Anthropic PBC as the publisher where available.
  • The mobile listing names Anthropic as the developer.
  • The setup instructions match Anthropic’s documentation.

Red flags

  • The file comes from a download mirror, ad page, forum post, or file-sharing link.
  • The site offers a Claude APK outside the official store path.
  • The page claims to provide Claude model weights for normal users.
  • The installer asks for unusual permissions before you can verify the publisher.
  1. Start at an official domain

Open claude.ai for the Claude product or anthropic.com for company information. For developer setup, use docs.claude.com or platform.claude.com.

  2. Check the publisher

Before approving a desktop install, check that the publisher is Anthropic or Anthropic PBC where your operating system shows that information. On mobile, check the listed developer before installing.

  3. Reject unofficial mirrors

Do not install DMG, EXE, MSI, ZIP, or APK files from file-sharing sites, ad pages, search-result clones, or social posts. c-ai.chat does not distribute Claude binaries.

What to do if the app won’t install

Most install problems come from operating system security prompts, stale downloads, blocked networks, or using the wrong source.

  • Restart from the official page: Delete the installer, reopen Claude’s download page, and download a fresh copy.
  • Check your operating system: Update macOS or Windows if the installer reports an unsupported system.
  • Review security prompts: Continue only after checking the publisher or listed developer.
  • Ask about endpoint security: Work devices may require administrator approval before new apps can run.
  • Try the web app: If the desktop app is blocked, use claude.ai in a browser while you investigate the local install issue.
  • Check network access: VPNs, proxies, firewalls, and DNS filters can stop sign-in or app updates even when installation succeeds.
  • Use the store listing on mobile: If a mobile install fails, open the App Store or Play Store on the device itself and confirm the official Claude listing.
  • Contact Anthropic support: If the issue persists, use support.anthropic.com and include your device, operating system, and exact error message.

If the problem is account access, usage limits, or organization settings, check our Claude pricing guide and Claude FAQ before changing plans.

FAQ

Is c-ai.chat an official Claude download source?

No. c-ai.chat is an independent guide. We explain Claude, compare options, and link to first-party sources, but we do not host Claude installers or represent Anthropic.

What is the safest Claude AI download link?

The safest starting point is claude.ai. For desktop and mobile apps, use Claude’s official download flow. For Claude Code, SDKs, and API setup, use Anthropic’s official docs.

Can I download Claude model weights?

No public Claude model-weight download is offered for normal users. Claude runs through Anthropic’s hosted product and API, so use claude.ai for chat or the official API platform for development.

Does Claude have Mac and Windows apps?

Yes. Use Claude’s official download page for desktop app access. Do not use repacked installers from software libraries, ad landing pages, or file-sharing links.

Is there a Claude desktop app for Linux?

If a Linux desktop app is not shown in Claude’s official download flow, use claude.ai in a browser. Developers can also check the official Claude Code docs for terminal workflows.

Is Claude Code the same as the Claude desktop app?

No. The desktop app is a general Claude interface. Claude Code is a terminal-based coding agent documented by Anthropic for developer workflows.

Does installing Claude give offline access?

No. Claude needs access to Anthropic’s service to generate responses. A desktop or mobile app can improve access, but it does not turn Claude into an offline local model.

Do I need a paid plan to install Claude?

No. Claude has free access with usage limits, and paid plans add more usage and features. Some developer and workplace features depend on your plan or organization settings.
